Holy Week Services at All Souls'

PALM SUNDAY: Join us on Saturday, April 4 at 5:00 pm and Sunday, April 5 at 8:00 am and 10:15 am for Palm Sunday. Holy Week begins with Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. You are invited to bring palm branches or other foliage for our Palm Sunday Procession on Sunday, April 5. We will bless the palms both at the 8:00 and 10:15 service.
TENEBRAE: We’ll present Tenebrae on Wednesday night, April 8, at 7:00 pm. Tenebrae is Latin for darkness or shadows and has for centuries been applied to the ancient monastic services of Matins and Lauds during the last three days of Holy Week (Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday). These services date from at least the fifth century. The purpose of the Tenebrae service is to recreate some of the emotional aspects of the passion story, a solemn and somber service.
MAUNDY THURSDAY LITURGY: At 7:00 pm in the church, on April 9, we will commemorate the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles. The Maundy Thursday liturgy will include foot washing of the faithful as a sign in which we love one another and as a way to show our commitment to follow Jesus Christ in servanthood. The liturgy will conclude with a Stripping of the Altar where we will take most everything out of the Chancel leaving the altar area as bare as possible to best demonstrate the bareness of the cross and help us reflect on the emptiness of the world without Christ.
MAUNDY THURSDAY ALL NIGHT VIGIL: Maundy Thursday All Night Vigil, with the blessed sacrament, will begin at 9:00 pm, April 9 following the Eucharist, foot washing and Stripping of the Altar and will continue through 7:00 am on Good Friday. By keeping Vigil with the sacrament, we keep vigil with Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane on the last night before he is handed over to be crucified. On this night Jesus asked his disciples to watch for just one hour. So we keep watch, praying through the night.
GOOD FRIDAY LITURGY: Join us at 12:00 pm on Friday, April 10 for our Good Friday liturgy as we commemorate Jesus’ death on the cross. The Good Friday service will include a beautifully sung passion, veneration of the cross, and communion from the reserved sacrament. At 4:00 pm on Good Friday, we will offer a musical Passion Meditation in the church.
EASTER VIGIL: The service of the Easter Vigil will be held on Saturday, April 11. We will begin outside on the patio in front of the church at 7:30 pm with the lighting of the new fire. The congregation will process, by candlelight, into the darkened church. Our vigil ends with the joyful good news of Christ’s resurrection. This service will include the use of incense.
FLOWERING OF THE CROSS: We invite you to bring flowers on Easter morning, Sunday, April 12 for the flowering of the cross. We will have extra flowers brought by the Altar Guild. Like the unfolding of a worshipful orchestra, eventually, the cross will be completely covered in beautiful flowers in a brilliant array of color, light and lovely fragrance. A symbol of death, darkness, pain, and hopelessness is transformed into something beautiful, new and alive in celebration of the Resurrection of Christ.
EASTER EUCHARIST: Let’s invite family and friends to our Festive Easter Eucharist, the feast of the Christian year, as we praise God for Jesus’ resurrection. We have three services to choose from:
7:45 am - Spoken Service
9:00 am - Sung service for children and families (with the All Souls' Choristers) - EASTER EGG HUNT AFTER THE SERVICE
11:00 am - Choral Eucharist with incense (led by the All Souls' Choir)
We will have a fellowship reception following the 9:00 and 11:00 service.
